                                     Band History

 Intro

So here’s the scene. I’m sat with my back on against the wall, idly throwing a tennis ball at our soon to be band room. My dads just bought me a “new” I use the term loosely) Vintage guitar and I can’t play a chord. Nevertheless, me and the drummer Chaz (Cade) decide we have too much spare time and decide to make a band. It doesn’t take too much time before we realise were shit. Not just shit, absolutely awful. It only takes a little while before our friend Chris (who could play bass, in a sense) wanted in. Now all that we need was a singer and a lead guitarist.

The Search for the Lead Guitarist

We asked around and soon enough big al (Fagan) who was ok, however we weren’t that picky as we were still rubbish. We wrote a couple of songs and things went well for about 3 weeks. Days went by and we were slowly recognising that al had a lack of commitment that the rest of us shared. In fact al would spend all of the band practice playing the damn “Californication” solo by the chillis. That drew the line. Bye, bye al.

Next up was the phenomenal guitarist little Luke (Taurino). Man he could play. Damn he shredded some mean guitar. Unfortunately, he didn’t share the same boisterous attitude, we all shared, and he lasted about a week. Sorry Luke.

Things took a turn for the worst and we decide to hire a saxophonist……..WHO'S STUPID IDEA WAS THAT? He was gone the next day. Bloody saxophones……

For a while, it was just the three of us. I (Josh) was singing as no one else had the guts too, and I could hold a tune, in a fashion. Are there no lead guitarists out there for us?

 Enter the Pinch

Me and Chris were jamming to some new material (Chaz was away at Taekwondo, a weekly ritual) and thinking of new ways to write songs. The material back then was quite basic, but it had a tune and we thought it was quite cool. It was kind of Leonard Cohen singing, with jolly Irish chords, whatever we could throw together really.

Chaz returned, and brought back with him one of his mates from Taekwondo. I had met him before, as we’d both often hang out at Chaz’s

Chaz explained “This is Nick, he can play, and he has his own equipment” To be honest he didn’t really look very Rock n’ Roll. He was considerably shorter than the rest of us, but we weren’t ones to judge…..we preferred making up nick names.

Nevertheless, we jammed to ‘Sweet Child o Mine’ and do you know what? It was awesome! It just seemed so right, and that was that. Welcome aboard Pinchy. NEVER SED WAS BORN!

 The Early Days

For one, things for Never Sed were looking up.  With lead guitarist Nick Pinchbeck in tow, song writing for me was getting easier as there was much more we could experiment with.

Soon the word of our band spread and in about 2 days we had a gig booked for the following week in some old hall where they were  holding a Christmas fair and jumble sale. Beggars can’t be choosers right!

The gig went great despite mine and Chris’s decision to build up some Dutch courage by downing half a bottle of glenmorangie and we tasted our first sweet success. There were many more to come.

If you’ve been bothered to read all of this you must either have way too much spare time, or you actually care, I hope the second one.

 Peace out
